Why agribusiness workers leave and how to understand why
Seasonal crews, field officers and processing staff leave for different reasons. How to ask what shaped their decision and act before next season.

Share your requirementsA tractor attachment maker builds equipment that couples to a tractor's three-point linkage or drawbar. Typical products are rotavators, trailers, front loaders, boom sprayers and balers. Plate and tube are cut, bent and welded into frames, PTO shafts and gearboxes are machined or bought in, and units are assembled, painted and run on a test pit. Fit with the tractor matters, so hitch pin spacing and shaft alignment are checked. Orders come from dealers and sometimes tractor makers, with spikes before the season. Welders, machinists and assembly fitters form the core, and a good fitter is worth far more than his payslip shows. Warranty claims carry faults back to the shop. These are the places the people side of this kind of business tends to give way. The rest of this page works through them.
HR here has to work for each of these groups, not only the office. The set-up below is written with all of them in mind.
A welder who reads drawings and gets good penetration has choices, and the shop loses jobs when one leaves.
Linkage and PTO shaft alignment is learned by experience. A mismatch shows up only at the dealer's yard.
Machinists and welders blame each other when a frame will not take a shaft, and nobody owns the fault.
Dispatch pressure before sowing brings missed bolt torque checks and units that never touched the test pit.
Breakages at the farm are traced slowly, and the welders and fitters are never told what went wrong.
Plates, frames and gearboxes move by hand and crane, with uneven slinging practice.
The top fabricator is promoted and finds leading a crew a different, uncomfortable job.

Give a clear ladder with pay tied to skill, respect their judgement and involve them in solving fit problems. Check what neighbouring shops pay.

We would ask what your best fitter checks, sort last year's warranty returns by cause and see whether final checks were signed in peak weeks. A fair first task is a welder and fitter ladder plus a fit check between weld shop and machining. Scope is set in writing before any work starts.
