Share your requirementsWho usually fills this role
Mostly young men from the city or migrants with a licence and a bike, some employed directly and some through fleet partners. At hiring, check licence, vehicle papers, knowledge of local roads, safe riding habits and honesty with cash. Ask how they handle a customer who cannot be found.

- Deposits cash on time with accurate counts
Stage 3
Senior or lead
- Mentors new riders on the locality
- Handles peak and bad-weather days safely

Training path
First weeks
- 1
Documents and vehicle check
The fleet coordinator verifies licence, insurance and helmet and shows the vehicle checklist. The rider completes the checklist daily and the coordinator spot-checks.
- 2
App and order handover
Teach the rider app, pickup scan, customer OTP or handover steps and bag packing. The coordinator watches a few handovers and corrects them.
- 3
Locality familiarisation
A senior rider shows main lanes, gates and landmarks in the delivery area. The joiner does supervised runs and notes tricky addresses.
First year
- 1
Safe riding
The coordinator or a trainer covers speed, helmets, rain and night riding. The rider's incident and near-miss reports are reviewed monthly.
- 2
Customer interaction
Role-play common issues: wrong address, customer not answering, damaged item. The coordinator observes and gives feedback.
- 3
Cash handling
Teach cash counting, receipts and deposit steps for cash-on-delivery orders. The accounts clerk reconciles daily and reviews errors with the rider.
Towards senior
- 1
Weather and peak days
The coordinator briefs on safe practice in rain, festival traffic and sale days. The rider follows the plan and the coordinator reviews incidents.
- 2
Mentoring new riders
The senior rider rides with new joiners for a few runs and shares route tips. The coordinator checks the new rider's delivery complaints.
- 3
Feedback to the hub
The rider reports blocked gates, unsafe spots and slow pickups. The hub lead acts on these and tells riders what changed.
Performance review
A weekly short chat with the fleet coordinator, a monthly 1-to-1 with delivery and safety data, and a written half-yearly review. Never review while the rider is on a live delivery.
What to measure
| Measure | How it is seen |
|---|---|
| Safe riding record | Incident and near-miss notes and observation of riding |
| Delivery completion | App record of completed, failed and returned deliveries with reasons |
| Customer handling | Customer ratings and complaints read with context |
| Cash accuracy | Daily cash reconciliation |
| Vehicle and document compliance | Checklist and document review |
| Reliability | Attendance and shift acceptance |
Evidence to bring
- Rider app delivery report
- Incident register
- Customer complaint notes
- Cash reconciliation sheet
- Vehicle and document checklist
Questions to ask in the review
- Which areas or addresses are hardest?
- What near misses did you have?
- How do you handle a customer who is not available?
- What delays do you face at pickup?
- Did you have any cash differences?
- How is your bike and equipment?
- What would make your shift safer or smoother?
Pitfalls
- Judging only on delivery time, which pushes unsafe riding
- Ignoring that fleet partner riders still affect the brand
- Not briefing riders before rain or sale days
- Penalties on failed deliveries caused by wrong addresses
Questions about this role
It depends on the arrangement, such as direct employment or fleet partner or gig. Confirm status and obligations with your adviser.
Check delivery-time pressure, give clear rules, review near misses openly and reward safe records.
Give riders a way to report it, a clear rule on leaving and support afterwards.
