Plan, Track and Measure Employee Learning
Training in most small companies lives in a spreadsheet, a folder of certificates and a WhatsApp group for nominations. GullyHR's learning and development module puts the training calendar, nominations, attendance, assessments and certificates into the same system that holds employee records, so a manager can see who was trained, on what, and when the next session is due.
What is learning and development software?
GullyHR's learning and development software is the module that plans a training calendar, records nominations and attendance, runs assessments and feedback, issues certificates and tracks individual development plans, all against each employee's own record. It replaces the spreadsheet and WhatsApp routine most SMBs use to plan and prove training, and reports what was delivered, to whom, and what is due next.
When businesses ask us for this
- Your training record is a spreadsheet that only one person updates, and only when reminded.
- Nominations go out on WhatsApp, and half the confirmations never make it back to a list anywhere.
- You cannot say, without asking around, who has completed the safety, compliance or product training your business requires.
- Certificates sit in individual email inboxes or personal folders, not against the employee record they belong to.
- A certification renewal date passes unnoticed until an audit, client or regulator asks for proof.
- Feedback forms are collected on paper or in a form tool that nobody reviews after the session ends.
- A manager wants to see their team's development plan and current skill gaps, and there is nowhere to look.
- Training spend and attendance cannot be reported to management without manually assembling several files.
What the work covers
The learning and development module manages the training calendar, nominations, attendance, assessments, feedback, certifications and individual development plans inside the same GullyHR platform that holds your employee records. You provide your current training calendar or programme list, the roles or job levels that require specific training or certification, and the people who will nominate, approve and record attendance. GullyHR configures the module around that process, the programme categories, the nomination and approval route, the assessment and certificate format, and who can see what, and loads your existing training and certification history so the record does not start empty. It is typically delivered as part of a broader GullyHR platform configuration, alongside employee records and performance, rather than as a standalone tool.
Training calendar
A calendar of planned programmes by month, department or role, visible to employees and managers, so a session is announced once instead of chased individually.
Nominations
Employees or managers nominate themselves or their team for a programme, and HR approves or assigns seats, replacing the broadcast message and the reply nobody tracks.
Attendance
Attendance for each session is recorded against the employee's own record, so completion is a fact in the system rather than a memory or a paper register.
Assessments
Pre- and post-programme assessments can be recorded against each participant, giving a simple before-and-after view rather than only a completion tick.
Feedback
Participant feedback on a programme and the facilitator is captured in one place, so a programme's usefulness can be reviewed before it is repeated.
Certifications
Certificates issued for a programme or an external qualification are stored against the employee record, with an expiry date where the certification requires renewal.
Development plans
An individual development plan sits against each employee's record, linking agreed development actions to the training that will address them.
Training reports
A standing report of programmes run, attendance, completion and pending certifications, so management sees the training picture without requesting a file.
How it runs
Training process review
We look at how you currently plan, nominate, run and record training, including the calendar, categories and any mandatory certifications.
Calendar and programme configuration
Programme categories, the annual or rolling calendar, and the nomination and approval route are set up to match your process.
Historical data migration
Your existing training records, attendance and certificates are loaded against each employee, so the module starts with a real history rather than a blank one.
Assessment and certificate setup
Assessment formats and certificate templates are configured for the programmes that require them, including renewal periods for time-bound certifications.
Role and permission setup
Access is set so employees see their own record, managers see their team, and HR administrators see the full training picture.
User training
HR administrators, managers and a sample of employees are walked through nominating, approving, recording attendance and pulling reports.
Go-live
The module goes live for a defined group or the full company, with the current calendar already loaded and visible.
Adoption review
After the first live cycle, usage and any gaps are reviewed and the configuration is adjusted before it is considered settled.

- A post go-live review meeting.
Who it is for
- Companies where training is planned by one person from memory and a spreadsheet, with no shared calendar.
- Businesses that must prove specific staff completed safety, compliance or product training, to a client, auditor or regulator.
- Multi-location businesses running the same induction or refresher programme at different sites, with no single view of who has attended.
- Companies already using or adopting the GullyHR platform for employee records who want training brought into the same system.
- Businesses building a first structured learning calendar rather than ad-hoc, request-driven sessions.
- Companies where certifications must be renewed periodically and a missed renewal carries real risk.
Why GullyHR.
The team that configures the learning and development module is the same team that designs learning and development processes and delivers many of the training programmes GullyHR clients run through it, so the module is built to hold a training calendar that actually gets followed rather than a generic form. Because it shares a platform with employee records, attendance and performance, a training history is never a separate system to reconcile against the rest of an employee's record.
What changes
- Training nominations, attendance and completion sit in one record instead of scattered spreadsheets and chat threads.
- A manager can see their team's training history and pending development actions without asking HR for a file.
- Certification expiry is visible ahead of the date, instead of being discovered when it has already lapsed.
- Management can review what training was delivered and to whom from a standing report rather than a special request.
- A new HR administrator can see the full training history of any employee instead of starting from scratch.

Where the software fits
The learning and development module sits inside the same GullyHR platform as employee records, attendance and performance, so a training record links directly to the employee it belongs to rather than living in a separate file. Nominations and approvals move as workflow steps between employee, manager and HR roles, with access controlled by role so a manager sees their team's training and an HR administrator sees the full picture. Certificates and assessment results are stored against the employee record, with renewal dates tracked where a certification is time-bound, and training reports are built from the same underlying data as the calendar and attendance records rather than assembled separately.

Questions we are asked
It manages the training calendar, nominations, attendance, assessments, feedback, certifications, individual development plans and training reports, all recorded against each employee's own record in the GullyHR platform.
Yes. It is configured to the number of locations and the training categories you actually run, whether that is a single office planning occasional sessions or a multi-location business running the same induction and refresher programmes at every site.
Yes. Existing attendance, assessment and certificate records, wherever they currently sit, are loaded into the module during setup so the training history does not start empty.
It sits inside the GullyHR platform alongside employee records, performance and attendance, and draws on the same employee master data. Connecting to a system outside the GullyHR platform is assessed case by case and is not assumed.
Implementation includes calendar and programme configuration, historical data migration, role and permission setup, training sessions for HR administrators and managers, and a review after go-live.
Employees and managers access the module through the GullyHR platform. Specific device or app requirements are confirmed as part of implementation rather than assumed in advance.
Access is role-based. An employee typically sees their own record, a manager sees their team, and HR administrators see the full training picture, configured to match your reporting structure.
Certificates issued through the module can carry a renewal or expiry date, so an approaching renewal is visible in the system rather than discovered after it has lapsed.
The spreadsheet's history is migrated in during setup, and the module is normally used alongside the existing process for a short period before the spreadsheet is retired.
Pricing is based on the number of employees, the number of locations, and whether the module is implemented on its own or alongside other GullyHR modules. It is confirmed in a proposal after a demonstration and a look at your current process.
Yes, programme categories can distinguish mandatory or compliance training from general development programmes, and reports can be filtered by category.
Usage is reviewed after the first live training cycle, configuration is adjusted where needed, and ongoing support remains available for new programmes and questions.
