Employee onboarding process for Capsule Manufacturers: gowning, humidity and the first filled batch
New capsule plant staff must learn gowning, humidity rules and a visual standard quickly. Onboarding sets habits that last, so it should be planned, not left to chance.

New workers are often placed at a belt or a packing line with a short demonstration. They learn to inspect by watching a colleague, and whatever that colleague misses becomes the standard. Gowning discipline is checked on day one and rarely again. Empty shells react to humidity and handling, so a new hand who opens a room door at the wrong time can cause a problem that nobody traces back.
A planned first month starts with gowning and room entry, then humidity and handling rules, then one task. Inspectors begin with a defect board and short shifts at the belt. Packers begin with one product and one pack format. A buddy is named, and the supervisor checks the new person's work at the end of each shift in week one.
How to set it up
1. Prepare the room and the buddy
Have gowning items in the right size and a named buddy. Tell the supervisor the joiner's start date and plan.
2. Teach gowning and room rules first
Practise entry and exit, door discipline and hygiene. Quality staff should watch and correct in the first days.
3. Start inspection with a defect board
Show real defects, let the joiner practise on a tray and then work short stretches at the belt with a check.
4. Add one packing format at a time
Hold on one product and one pack until errors are low. See employee onboarding for building the full plan.
5. Review at the end of week one
Ask the joiner and the buddy what was clear and what was not. Change the plan before the next joiner arrives.
Check these first
Before changing anything, find out what is true today. These take an afternoon and use your own records.
- Count joiners who made a gowning lapse in their first fortnight.
- Ask recent hires what nobody told them about humidity.
- Check that every joiner had a named buddy.
- Count joiners who left within three months.

Start with short stretches and a check on their work. Extend as their catch rate holds up, using the defects seen by the next stage as a guide.

The buddy during the shift and the supervisor at the end of it, for the first week. Then reduce checks as the person proves reliable.
