Learning and development process for Sanitaryware showrooms: range knowledge and fitter sign-offs
Bathroom buyers ask about flush systems, finishes, water pressure and fixing, and expect clear answers. Learning has to reach the display floor and the fitting crew in small, regular doses.

Sanitaryware ranges change often, and each brand has its own finishes, cartridges and fittings. Advisers pick up knowledge from the brand representative on a visit, from the senior adviser, or from mistakes made in front of customers. Fitters learn on site from whoever they are sent with, and good habits depend on that person.
Useful learning here is brief and practical. A fifteen minute session at the display, a one-page sheet for each new range, a quiz the adviser can answer in a minute, and a fitter task list with a senior signing each task. It builds confidence on the floor and cuts the callbacks that follow a poor fit.
How to set it up
1. Make a product sheet for each range
One page per range with key features, finishes, who it suits and common questions. Keep the sheets at the display for quick reading.
2. Hold a monthly floor session
Fifteen minutes with the brand representative or the senior adviser on one range, ending with three questions each adviser answers aloud.
3. Write a fitter task list
Tasks such as wall-hung closet fixing, concealed cistern setting, shower mixer fitting and leak testing. A senior fitter signs the name and date when a task is done well.
4. Pair new advisers with a senior
For the first month, a new adviser sits in on customer conversations and then leads one with the senior listening. Review once a week.
5. Keep a simple record
One sheet per person showing sessions attended and tasks signed. Use it in discussions on grade and pay, with the performance management review.
Check these first
Before changing anything, find out what is true today. These take an afternoon and use your own records.
- Ask three advisers to explain the difference between two products on the display.
- List the callbacks in the last quarter and note how many were fitting faults.
- Check which fitters have a signed task list and which work on verbal trust.
- See whether the brand representatives have ever trained your staff and when.

Questions owners ask
Short monthly sessions are easier to keep up than a large yearly event. Choose a regular slot on a quiet weekday morning and protect it from billing and delivery calls.
Many are willing, since it helps them sell. Give them a clear slot and a list of questions your customers ask, so the session answers real needs and not a sales pitch.
Offer a short task check and a standard before giving them work. Those who meet it get more jobs, which gives them a reason to attend. Confirm engagement rules with a qualified professional.
