Attendance, shift and leave process for Mobile Stores: Rosters for Launch Days and Late Closings
A mobile store is open long hours and busiest at launches and weekends. A roster that matches footfall, with fair offs and a swap rule, keeps both customers and staff content.

Many stores run on a loose roster. The manager decides the morning's cover by who has come in, and weekly offs are taken whenever the shop is quiet. This works until a launch day arrives with half the team on leave, or one person works six late closings in a row and resigns.
A simple weekly roster fixes most of it: peak-hour cover marked first, weekly offs spread fairly, a rule for swaps, and a note on who covers the technician. Attendance is recorded the same way in every store so that pay and incentives are based on one fact.
How to set it up
1. Map footfall by hour and day
For two weeks, note when the store is busiest. Include launches, salary week and festival days. Use it to decide minimum cover per hour.
2. Build the weekly roster
Mark peak hours first, then fit offs and breaks around them. Publish the roster three days ahead, so people can plan.
3. Share late closings fairly
Rotate late shifts and closing duties, and note who did them. Where possible, arrange transport or a time-off return.
4. Allow swaps with a rule
Staff may swap shifts with a colleague of equal skill if the manager is told a day ahead. Record swaps so attendance stays correct.
5. Record attendance in one way
Use the same register or sign-in method in every store, checked by the manager each evening. Connect with HR reporting and analytics to spot patterns.
Check these first
Before changing anything, find out what is true today. These take an afternoon and use your own records.
- Look at last week's roster against footfall by hour.
- Count late closings per person in the last month.
- Check whether anyone has taken no weekly off for three weeks.
- See whether swaps are recorded or only agreed by word.

Questions owners ask
It depends on your footfall and queue times. Observe for a fortnight, note when customers wait, and set minimum numbers to cover those hours. Review after each launch.
Limit it, announce launch dates early and offer time off in the quiet days after. Allow genuine emergencies and record why.
Not necessarily. A register checked daily by the manager is enough for a small shop. Choose something the whole team will use correctly.
