Attendance, shift and leave process for Computer stores: showroom shifts and bench cover
A computer store has to be open when buyers can come, and the bench has to be staffed when repairs are due. Rosters that cover both, fairly, decide whether the shop runs smoothly.

Share your requirementsWhy attendance, shift and leave process matters in computer stores
Computer stores usually open late and close late, and the weekend is the busiest time. Sellers want Sundays off like everyone else, technicians are needed when customers collect repairs, and a field engineer may be at an office when the counter needs help. A roster made day to day from the owner's phone leads to quarrels and gaps.
A written roster helps. It sets who is at the counter, who is at the bench and who is on call, with weekly offs rotated. Festival and admission months need their own plan, since walk-ins double. Leave requests should come early enough for the roster to cope, and cover should be someone who knows the stock.
How to set it up
1. Draw the weekly roster by role
Show counter, bench, billing and field cover separately. Mark busiest hours and make sure at least one person who knows the range is always on the floor.
2. Rotate weekends and weekly offs
Share Saturday and Sunday duty in turns, and publish the next month early. Fairness here is worth more than a small bonus.
3. Record technician attendance and job time
A simple log of arrival, jobs taken and jobs closed shows if the bench is short or overloaded.
4. Plan for peaks
Mark festival offers, college admissions and tax-season purchases on the calendar, and ask for leave requests before them.
5. Name a cover person for each role
Cross-train one seller for billing and one for basic repair intake, so a single absence does not close a counter.
Check these first
Before changing anything, find out what is true today. These take an afternoon and use your own records.
- See whether next month's roster is written and shared before the month starts.
- Count how many weekends each seller worked last quarter.
- Ask who covers billing if the clerk is absent tomorrow.
- Look at whether the bench has a day each week with no technician.

Questions owners ask
Keep a short call list of trained cover people, set a rule on how late an absence can be reported and record each case. Repeat patterns need a conversation, not a general warning.
Not always. Bench work can run on its own shift, as long as customers can collect repairs when they come. Make sure the handover between shifts is written down.
Ask for leave plans early, limit how many can be off together and offer time back after the peak. Be clear about the rule in advance so no one feels singled out.
