How it is worked out
- PF: the employee pays 12% of PF wages and the employer 12%, of which 8.33% goes to the pension scheme on at most ₹15,000 of wages. The employer also pays 0.5% administration and 0.5% EDLI.
- ESI: where gross wages are ₹21,000 a month or less, the employee pays 0.75% and the employer 3.25% of gross wages.
- You can choose to contribute on the full PF wage or only up to the ₹15,000 ceiling.
It depends on the establishment's coverage and on the employee's wages. Many establishments must cover employees earning up to the ceiling and may cover others by choice. Confirm how it applies to yours.
Both the employee and the employer pay, on gross wages, where the employee's gross wages are within the ESI ceiling.
