30-60-90 day onboarding plan

Give a copy to the new joiner on day one. It keeps the first three months about learning, then doing, then owning, and gives the manager fixed times to check in.

Before day one

  • Signed offer letter and documents received.
  • Laptop, accounts and access ready; desk or remote setup arranged.
  • Manager has written the first month's goals.
  • A buddy is named and knows they are the buddy.

Days 1 to 30: learn

  • Meet the team and the people the role works with.
  • Learn the product, customers and the tools in use.
  • Read the policies and the handbook; sign the acknowledgements.
  • Goals: [two or three things to understand or complete].
  • Check-in: weekly with the manager, and a review at day 30.

Days 31 to 60: contribute

  • Take on part of the day-to-day work with support.
  • Goals: [two or three deliverables].
  • Feedback from the manager and the people the new joiner works with.
  • Check-in: fortnightly, and a review at day 60.

Days 61 to 90: own

  • Run a defined piece of work end to end.
  • Goals: [two or three outcomes with measures].
  • Probation review conversation, or midpoint if probation is longer.
