Room Attendant job description
A Room Attendant cleans and prepares guest rooms and corridors in a hotel, resort or service apartment. The role makes sure each room is clean, complete and ready on time for arriving guests.

Why the role exists
In a hotel, guests judge the stay first by the room. The Room Attendant cleans, makes beds, replaces linen and amenities, and reports faults and lost items. - Make beds to the hotel standard and replace towels, toiletries, tea and coffee items and stationery.
- Check each room for faults such as leaks, bulbs, air conditioning and TV, and report them to the supervisor.
- Report lost and found items and hand them over with a record, never keeping or moving guest belongings.
- Respond to guest requests for extra bedding, toiletries or turn-down service, with courtesy.
- Use chemicals and equipment safely, store them securely and follow the colour-coded cloth system.
- Update room status with the supervisor or housekeeping app and clean corridors, linen rooms and trolleys.

Interview questions to ask
Ask every candidate the same questions in the same order and score them against written anchors, so the decision rests on the work and not the impression.
- Tell us the steps you follow to clean a check-out room from the door to the bathroom.
- You find a guest's phone charger and some cash left in a drawer. What do you do?
- A guest knocks while you are cleaning and asks for extra pillows. How do you respond?
- You are given too many rooms for one shift and a VIP arrives early. What do you do?
- You notice a bathroom tap leaking and a stain that will not come off. What do you report and to whom?
- How do you stay safe when handling chemicals and lifting heavy linen during a long shift?
Hiring tips for this role
- Run a short practical trial. Ask the candidate to make a bed and set a bathroom, and watch speed, finish and attention to small details.
- Check trust carefully, because the role works alone in guest rooms. Use reference checks through your own channels and set clear lost-property rules from day one.
- Be open about shift timing, weekly off and festival or wedding peak days. Early exits often follow surprise about workload at peak occupancy.
- Avoid hiring only for speed. A fast attendant who skips bathrooms or hidden areas produces the complaints that damage reviews.
Questions about hiring a room attendant
The Room Attendant cleans assigned rooms. The supervisor inspects rooms, allocates work, trains attendants and reports to the housekeeping head. Many attendants grow into the supervisor role with experience.
It depends on room size, type of clean and equipment. Set a realistic count with your housekeeping head and review it at peak and slow periods rather than copying another hotel's number.
Yes. With a trainer, a checklist and a few days alongside an experienced attendant, a fresher can learn standard cleaning. Honesty, attention to detail and willingness to work steadily matter most.
