Attendance, shift and leave process for Internet Service Providers: duty rosters for fault calls
Technicians start the day at a customer, not at a desk. Attendance needs to show who is where, and who is on call tonight.

Share your requirementsWhy attendance, shift and leave process matters in internet service providers
Many providers record technician attendance as a phone call to a supervisor at the first job. The record is thin, and claims for overtime or travel are hard to settle. Weekly offs are shared informally, and one area may be thin while another is idle.
A clear process records start, first job, last job and finish. It states who is on call each night, how rest is given after a long call out, and how leave is planned around outages and festival peaks. Supervisors then plan by area with real information.
How to set it up
1. Record the start and finish
Choose a simple method such as a phone check-in at the first and last job, and make it the same for everyone.
2. Publish the on-call rota
State who covers nights, weekends and holidays, with a back-up for each area. Share it a week ahead.
3. Give rest after long call outs
If a technician works late on an emergency, they start later the next day. Write the rule so supervisors apply it fairly.
4. Plan leave around known peaks
Festival seasons, exam periods and monsoon may bring more faults. Decide which weeks need more cover and when leave is open.
5. Review attendance and duty by area
Check monthly where people were thin, where they were idle and who covered the most emergencies. Adjust the rota. HR documentation keeps the records tidy.
Check these first
Before changing anything, find out what is true today. These take an afternoon and use your own records.
- Look at the last week's start and finish records for one area.
- Count how many emergency call outs one technician handled last month.
- Ask supervisors how weekly offs are decided.
- Check whether leave was granted in a high fault week.

Questions owners ask
Agree a rule beforehand: who decides to continue, how extra time is recorded and what rest follows. Without it, supervisors invent a rule each time.
That is a decision for you, based on the burden and market practice. Whatever you choose, state it in writing and confirm the legal position with a qualified professional.
Use a published order, such as first request or rotation across festival periods. Keep the rule simple and apply it to everyone, including supervisors.
