Attendance, shift and leave process for Laundries: Monday rush, floor shifts and delivery cover
In a laundry, Monday is the day that tests the roster. People return late from the weekend, the load is highest, and the counter still has to promise a date to every customer.

Laundry branches often run on a verbal roster. The manager knows who usually comes and who usually does not. That works until a worker is ill, a rider leaves or a festival week doubles the load, and nobody knows who can be moved from which branch.
A simple record by branch and by shift gives that picture. It shows weekly offs, the floor, the counter and the riders in one place, and it lets a manager phone a reliever on Sunday evening instead of on Monday at nine.
How to set it up
1. Write the shift pattern for each role
Counter, wash floor, pressing, packing and riders each have their own start and end times. Put them on a single sheet at each branch and at the central unit.
2. Record presence by name at start
A register or phone entry within the first half hour, signed by the branch manager. Late arrivals are marked, not ignored, so patterns can be seen.
3. Make the weekly off visible
Spread weekly offs so no branch loses its best pressers on the same day. Avoid Monday offs for floor staff wherever possible.
4. Keep a reliever list for peaks
Name people who can step in at each branch, with the tasks they can do. Check the list every month and add to it before festival and wedding seasons.
5. Review absence every week
The area manager looks at the weekly pattern, talks to staff with repeat absences and asks if the cause is travel, health or pay. Notes go in the file kept under the HR documentation process.
Check these first
Before changing anything, find out what is true today. These take an afternoon and use your own records.
- Count presence by branch on the last three Mondays against need.
- Check that weekly offs are spread and not clustered on one weekday.
- Look at the reliever list and ask whether each person could start tomorrow.
- Ask riders how their cover works when one of them is sick.

Questions owners ask
Yes, if the manager knows and approves. Keep a simple note of the swap, so wages and attendance remain clear and the change does not become a dispute.
Talk to the person first. Travel from a distant home, family duties or a second job often explain it. Agree a realistic start time or a different weekly off before treating it as a disciplinary matter.
Note it clearly in the register with the hours worked, so wages follow the same record. A written rule on half days prevents arguments at week end.
