Attendance, shift and leave process for Machine Vision Companies: trials, site days and tuning calls by rule
Vision engineers swing between desk work, trials on customer lines and urgent tuning calls. Attendance rules should fit those swings fairly.

Without a rule, trial weeks eat weekends and tuning calls arrive at any hour. Developers in the office see field staff as always away, and field staff see developers going home on time. Leave gets refused by whoever is asked first, and the engineers with the most customer calls burn out.
A fair pattern sets office hours, trial and site days with a rest rule, and a tuning-call rota with limits on what is urgent. Leave is planned against known trial dates. Both developers and field staff take part in the rota, so the load is shared and each side sees the other's job.
How to set it up
1. List the working patterns
Write who works fully in office, who is mostly on site and who splits. Record usual hours and travel for each.
2. Define what is urgent
Agree which tuning calls need an answer at night and which can wait till morning. Customers are told the rule at handover.
3. Build a shared rota
Rotate first-line calls across developers and field engineers. Name a backup. Offer time back after a night call. Our attendance, shift and leave process work would set this out.
4. Plan trials and rest
Mark trial dates on a calendar and give rest days after long site stretches. Avoid stacking trials on the same people.
5. Review monthly
Look at calls, hours and trips by person each month. Move load to others if one person carries too much of it.
Check these first
Before changing anything, find out what is true today. These take an afternoon and use your own records.
- After-hours calls last month by person
- Days on customer sites in the last quarter by engineer
- Leave refused or moved because of a trial
- Calls tagged urgent that could have waited

Questions owners ask
Yes, in a light form. It builds understanding of field problems, spreads the load and improves the software. Pair them with a field engineer at first.
Define what is covered after handover, set a service period and a charge or contract for further tuning. Without a boundary, calls never end.
A small one: avoid leave during their trial window, and give priority in quiet months. Write it down so it is not decided case by case.
