Attendance, shift and leave process for Cleaning companies: crews, bookings and peak weekends
In home cleaning the shift is a booking, not a clock-in. Attendance, pay for cancelled jobs and leave need rules that match how crews actually travel and work.

A cleaner may have three bookings in a day, in three different flats, with an hour of travel between. Start and end times depend on the customer, the size of the flat and traffic. A single morning and evening sign-in does not describe it. When pay depends on days or hours worked, arguments begin over the second booking that ran late and the third that was cancelled on the road.
Leave is awkward in the same way. Festival weeks are the busiest, and cleaners also want time off then. Without a plan, people take leave suddenly or leave for good. A calendar built a month ahead, with fixed rules for how many crews can be away and how cancellations are paid, avoids most quarrels.
How to set it up
1. Record attendance by booking
Crew leader notes arrival and departure for each booking, with crew members present. The coordinator checks it against the booking list at the end of the day.
2. Write the cancellation rule
What a cleaner is paid when a booking is cancelled before travel, on the road or at the door. Tell customers about their side of the rule.
3. Set weekly offs and peak limits
Fixed weekly offs for the core team, a limit on how many can be on leave in festival weeks, and a first-come rule for requests made early.
4. Keep a standby list
Cleaners who are willing to cover absences at short notice, paid a small extra when called. This reduces last-minute scrambles.
5. Match with pay each week
Check the day records against the pay sheet for one week each month, and correct differences before they grow. This feeds the payroll process you already use.
Check these first
Before changing anything, find out what is true today. These take an afternoon and use your own records.
- Compare last week's booking list with attendance records and count differences.
- Ask cleaners how a cancelled booking is paid, and see if answers agree.
- Look at which weekends crews were short and who was on leave.
- Check who is on the standby list and when they were last called.

Questions owners ask
Either can work if clear. Per booking is easy to explain, per day gives security. Many firms pay a day rate with a bonus for extra bookings. Whatever you choose, write the cancellation and travel rules.
Find the reason first. It may be travel or a family issue. Then agree a change, record it and review in two weeks. Keep notes if you may need to take further steps, and take advice for serious cases.
You can limit it, if you say so in advance and apply the rule evenly. Offer leave in other weeks. Confirm with a qualified professional what leave staff are entitled to.
