Attendance, shift and leave for Office Furniture Makers: night fitting, move-in peaks and the coating line
Handover dates pull production and installation into the same weeks. A shift plan that is made ahead keeps overtime fair and keeps night installers fit to come to work the next day.

Fit-out work swings. For weeks little happens, then three floors are due for move-in and the shop runs late, the powder coating line is loaded all day, and installers go out at night. Without a plan, overtime falls on the same willing people, leave requests are refused in anger, and the installer who worked the night is absent next morning.
Good looks like a simple calendar with handover dates, the shifts each area needs, and a rule for rest after night work. Leave is granted ahead of the busy weeks, not refused during them, and extra hands are called in early. People can see the plan, so fairness is checkable. The aim is a routine the owner can read in one sheet and the floor can follow without a long meeting.
How to set it up
1. Build a handover calendar
List every order with its handover date, installation days and the date the drawing and mock-up must be done. Share it with the shift supervisors weekly.
2. Plan shifts per area from the calendar
Board shop, metal shop, coating line and installation each need a count of people per day. Mark the weeks where one area is short before the week arrives.
3. Write a night and weekend rule
State the rest due the day after a night job, how night work is paid or compensated, and who may refuse. Put it in writing. See attendance, shift and leave.
4. Rotate overtime
Keep a sheet of extra hours by person so the same few are not always asked. Offer it first to those who have had least.
5. Review after each handover
Within a week, note what ran late, who was absent and what the plan missed. Adjust the next calendar.
Check these first
Before changing anything, find out what is true today. These take an afternoon and use your own records.
- Count night or weekend installation days worked by each installer last month.
- List the days an installer was absent after a night job in the last quarter.
- Look at overtime hours by person for the last handover and see who carried most.
- Check how many leave requests were refused in a busy week and why.

Questions owners ask
A rest day or a late start the next morning is sensible, since tired people make mistakes with client property. Set it as a written rule so it is not a favour that depends on the supervisor.
Ask for leave plans before busy weeks and block the dates on the calendar early. Granting leave ahead is easier than refusing it at the last minute.
Often yes, since a coating run is hard to stop once started and the oven stays hot. Plan the crew for the full run, and avoid pulling its people to other work mid shift.
