Recruitment process consulting for CCTV retailers: technicians and helpers who can finish a job
A CCTV retailer cannot grow faster than it can find installers who work neatly on a roof and speak well to a customer. A hiring process built around a real site task finds them sooner.

CCTV shops usually hire installers by referral from another dealer or an electrician friend. It is quick, but the skill is uneven. Some can crimp, route and label cable cleanly, others learned on a single type of job. A hasty hire shows up weeks later as a callback, and the owner has paid for the same job twice.
A better process writes what each role does, tests a small piece of the real work and states the travel and working hours honestly. It also looks beyond referrals to electrical institutes, local electrician groups and helpers inside your own crews. It keeps a short record of source and months stayed, so you see which channel brings people who last.
How to set it up
1. Write separate profiles for each role
Counter executive, survey staff, lead installer, helper. List the tools, cable work, customer contact and travel each involves, marking what can be taught.
2. Test a small installation task
Ask the candidate to mount a camera, crimp a connector or set up a recorder under the eye of your lead installer. Watch tidiness and safety as well as speed.
3. Use several sources
Combine referrals with electrical institutes, local electrician groups and promotion of your best helpers. Record the source for every hire.
4. Be open about travel and hours
State the area covered, the days that run late and how site visits are counted. People who know this before joining stay longer.
5. Check after three months
List hires by source and note who is still working and how many callbacks followed their jobs. Spend effort where good installers come from.
Check these first
Before changing anything, find out what is true today. These take an afternoon and use your own records.
- List the last five installer hires, where each came from and who remains.
- Ask your lead installer whether the last hire would pass a practical test today.
- Read your job notice and see whether it mentions travel and height work.
- Count callbacks linked to people hired in the last year.

Questions owners ask
Mix both. Electricians bring wiring sense but may need training on cameras and recorders. Helpers take longer but learn your way of working. Plan a path for helpers alongside experienced hires.
A small practical task such as mounting a camera or crimping a connector, plus a talk about a past job. Watch how the person handles tools, tidiness and safety at a height.
Use the same practical test for referrals as for others. Speak to the person who referred them about the actual work they did, and check again after three months.
