Attendance, shift and leave for PCB Manufacturers: rosters and cover for continuous lines
Wet lines and baths cannot be left half run, and urgent prototype lots disturb normal batches. Attendance and shift planning protects the process, not just the muster roll.

Without clear rules, one absent plating operator pulls a helper from another line, and the replacement does not know the bath checks. Urgent prototype lots ask for overtime at short notice, so the same few people are always called. Leave piles up before festivals, and supervisors approve it by memory. Wet line errors then rise.
A good system fixes rosters in advance, names who covers which line and keeps a short list of signed-off backups. Overtime is offered by rotation and recorded. Leave is planned around known peaks, with a simple view of who is away. Late arrivals and absences are looked at by line, so patterns show up before they cause scrap.
How to set it up
1. Map the critical positions
List positions where a missing person stops a line, such as bath tenders, drill programmers and test operators. Note who is signed off to cover each one.
2. Fix the roster early
Publish the monthly shift pattern with enough lead time for people to plan. Keep changes in one place so that supervisors and payroll see the same version.
3. Handle urgent lots by rule
Write how prototype rush orders are accepted, who approves overtime and how rest is protected. Offer extra hours by rotation to avoid burning the same people.
4. Plan leave around peaks
Collect festival and family leave requests ahead of time and balance them by line. Our attendance, shift and leave work covers simple rules and records.
5. Read absence by line and day
Each month look at where and when absences cluster. Talk to the supervisors about causes such as heat, distance or night shifts before adding stricter rules.
Check these first
Before changing anything, find out what is true today. These take an afternoon and use your own records.
- Count the shifts last month where a wet line ran short of a signed-off person.
- List who did the most overtime and who did none, by name.
- Check whether leave approvals match the roster for the festival weeks.
- Look at absences on the day after a rush prototype lot.

Questions owners ask
Enough that one absence does not stop the line or pull in an untrained helper. Decide the number from your own roster and absence record, then train to it. Review after any shift that ran short.
Many units do, because night work on wet lines is harder to staff. Choose what suits your pay structure and apply it by clear rule. Our compensation support can help you design it without confusion.
Ask for leave plans a few weeks ahead, publish a view by line and approve in order of request with a fair rotation for the most popular dates. Tell people early when a clash is unavoidable.
