Competency and talent management for Test Preparation Platforms: what makes a good educator, question writer or doubt solver
Students come for a star educator, but results come from many skills across several roles. A short list of what good looks like in each role helps in hiring, review and progression.

Share your requirementsWhy competency and talent management matters in test preparation platforms
Most platforms hire educators on following and marks, writers on a trial question and doubt solvers on their own results. These are fair signs, but they do not tell you who explains well, who finds errors or who stays patient at midnight. Reviews then rest on student ratings and a few complaints.
A short competency list for each role gives you something more specific. For educators: subject depth, pacing, handling doubts, use of the board or slides and consistency. For writers: accuracy, range of difficulty and clear answer keys. For doubt solvers: correctness, brevity and tone. Use the list at hiring, review and when choosing who moves up.
How to set it up
1. List four to six skills per role
Educator, question writer, reviewer, doubt solver and mentor. Write each skill in a sentence and say what good and weak look like.
2. Use the list in selection
Score trials against it: a demo lecture, a set of questions or a sample of doubts. Two reviewers score separately.
3. Review people against the list twice a year
A short conversation with a sample of their work and student feedback, where they see where they are strong or weak.
4. Spot people ready to move
Doubt solvers who show reviewer skills, writers who can lead a subject, educators ready for a new course. Note names and a next step for each.
5. Keep the lists current
After each exam season, add what changed in the exam pattern or in student needs, and drop skills that no longer matter.
Check these first
Before changing anything, find out what is true today. These take an afternoon and use your own records.
- Ask three educators what they think makes them good and compare with the list you would write.
- Read ten doubt answers against the doubt solver skills and note gaps.
- Check how your last promotion in the academic team was decided.
- See whether the question writers have feedback from reviewers on their last batch.

Questions owners ask
It shows pull, not teaching. A strong following and clear teaching often go together, but not always. Use the competency list to see both and to develop educators whose students do well.
Track errors found by reviewers, errors reported by students and the spread of difficulty across their sets. Share this with the writer in a short conversation after each series.
Look for people whose work others rely on: the doubt solver whose answers are copied, the writer whose papers need few corrections. Offer them a small step, such as reviewing, and watch how they do.
