HR reporting and analytics for Yarn Manufacturers: simple numbers for attrition, absence and waste ownership
Yarn mills run on counts and wastage. A short monthly HR sheet tells you where people are leaving, where absence is high and where waste sits.

The mill tracks production, count, strength and waste in detail, yet people numbers live in notebooks. The owner learns that fifteen workers left last month only when frames start going idle. Waste is reported by section, so tenders see no link between their care and the number. Overtime keeps rising and nobody can say which department drives it.
A monthly one-page view adds a few people numbers beside the production ones: joiners, leavers, absence and overtime by department, plus waste per section next to the tenders on duty. Ask each department head for a short comment on the main change. Over a few months, patterns appear, such as one shift losing new hands first, and decisions are taken on facts, not on rumour.
How to set it up
1. Pick five or six numbers
Joiners, leavers, absence, overtime, hostel occupancy and waste by section. Resist adding more until these are in use.
2. Collect from sheets you already have
Pull from attendance, gate registers and wage sheets. Agree one person who compiles it by a fixed date each month.
3. Add the department head’s comment
One or two lines on what changed and why, so the figures come with a human reading. Discuss at the monthly review.
4. Connect waste to people on duty
Show waste by section beside the roster, so patterns by shift or tender appear without blaming anyone prematurely.
5. Review and act on one thing each month
Choose one issue, such as early exits in the first month, assign an owner and check it next time. See HR reports automation when the sheet gets heavy.
Check these first
Before changing anything, find out what is true today. These take an afternoon and use your own records.
- Count joiners and leavers last quarter and the length of stay of the leavers.
- Compare overtime hours by department for the last three months.
- Look at waste by section next to who ran each shift.
- Ask a department head what changed in his people numbers this month.

Questions owners ask
No. A spreadsheet fed from sheets you already keep is enough to begin. Move to software when the manual work becomes slow or error-prone.
Often early leavers, those who leave within the first month or two, since it shows hiring, hostel and first-week problems. Pair it with absence by department.
Present patterns by section and shift first, ask why, and check the system before the person. Share the sheet with department heads so they see their own picture.
