Compensation benchmarking for Mobile application companies: pay for scarce mobile skills against nearby offers
When a developer holds three offers, a pay band set two years ago does not help. Benchmarking shows where your pay stands for scarce mobile skills and where it can wait.

Share your requirementsWhy compensation benchmarking matters in mobile application companies
Mobile skills are priced by a hot market. A company that last reviewed pay a year ago may find that a mid-level iOS developer is offered much more by a rival. Meanwhile, some roles such as coordinators or junior testers may be paid above the nearby norm. Without comparison, pay changes are made in panic or by who complains.
Benchmarking gathers offers seen in hiring, exit interviews and trusted peers, sets them against your bands and shows gaps. It lets you pay more for scarce skills on purpose and explain it to others, and avoid giving large rises to people who were not at risk. Done once a year with a short note to the team, it also stops pay talk from turning into rumour.
How to set it up
1. List roles and levels
Android, iOS, cross-platform, back-end, design, testing and project roles, each at junior, mid and senior.
2. Gather market evidence
Record offers candidates mention, exit interview reasons and what peers report. Treat single data points with care.
3. Compare with your bands
Mark roles where you sit below, near or above, and note how scarce the skill is.
4. Decide where to act
Adjust bands for scarce roles first, and plan others over time. Compensation strategy can shape the rules.
5. Explain it to the team
Share how bands are set and how people move through them, without disclosing individual pay.
Check these first
Before changing anything, find out what is true today. These take an afternoon and use your own records.
- Note the offers candidates mentioned in your last three searches.
- Ask recent leavers what they were offered elsewhere.
- Check pay gaps between new joiners and long-serving staff in the same role.
- List roles where pay may be above the market and could be held. Ask the team leads whether they agree before changing any band.

Questions owners ask
At least once a year, and when two or more searches fail or key people leave. In a scarce market, annual reviews can already be late.
It happens, but large gaps create resentment. Review your existing people for the same role when you raise entry pay, and plan correction over time.
Use offers mentioned by candidates, exit conversations, trusted peer companies and published surveys. No single source is perfect, so compare several.
