Attendance, shift and leave process for Industrial Enclosure Makers: shifts, oven days and peak weeks

Enclosure makers depend on a small powder coating crew and one oven, and on benders whose absence stops the line. A clear attendance process plans cover before peaks.

Why attendance, shift and leave process matters in industrial enclosure makers

The coating crew is small and the oven runs on a schedule. If one coater is absent, the batch waits and the dispatch date slips. A sick bender holds up the cut parts that welders need. Peak weeks, when a large order for a panel builder must go together, bring long hours, and the same people carry them. Leave then follows the peak and clashes.

A good process builds the shift pattern around oven batches, with start times and handover rules. It names who can cover each station and keeps a short list of trained backups, particularly for coating and bending. Peak weeks are planned from the order book with overtime shared by rule. Leave is booked against the schedule, with a limit per station.

How to set it up

  1. 1. Map shifts to the flow

Match shift timings to oven batches, bending and assembly so that each stage has people when it needs them.

  2. 2. List cover per station

For each station, name two people who can cover it. Start with coating and bending and add gaps to the training list.

  3. 3. Plan peak weeks early

From the order book, mark the heavy weeks and agree overtime and rest rules in advance. See attendance, shift and leave for patterns.

  4. 4. Share overtime by rule

Write down who is asked first, how the offer rotates between people and how hours are recorded, so the rule can be checked later.

  5. 5. Book leave against the schedule

Check leave against the peaks and the oven plan. Set a limit of people away per station and a simple rule for urgent leave.

Check these first

Before changing anything, find out what is true today. These take an afternoon and use your own records.

  • Count batches that waited last quarter because a coater or bender was absent.
  • List overtime hours by person in the last peak week.
  • Ask who can cover coating and who can cover bending if the lead is away.
  • Compare leave requests with the weeks of heaviest dispatch.

Questions owners ask

Train a second person to run the oven and plan batches around it, so that one absence does not stop dispatch. Do not rely on one person alone.
