Share your requirementsWhy attendance, shift and leave process matters in corrugated box manufacturers
If a corrugator crew member is late, the reel change slips and every line behind waits. Overtime goes to whoever stays, so the willing few are tired and the rest watch. Festival season piles on rush orders and shifts turn into marathons. Leave requests clash with peaks, and absence on a Monday after payday is quietly expected.
A written pattern covers shifts, handover between shifts, an overtime rotation and notice for peaks. The crew has named cover for each position, so an absence does not stop the line. Leave is planned against the order calendar with free months and tight months. A simple daily record shows who was present and who covered.
How to set it up
1. Mark the order calendar
List festival peaks, e-commerce surges and quiet months. Share it so people can plan leave and overtime.
2. Fix shift times and handover
Set start and end times for corrugator and converting teams. Write a short handover note for reel status, jobs in progress and faults.
3. Set an overtime rotation
Offer extra hours in turn, record them and cap long runs. Our attendance, shift and leave process work would help with the rule.
4. Name cover for key positions
For each corrugator position, name two people who can step in. Train them on the line before a crisis.
5. Plan leave around peaks
Allow leave freely in quiet months and ask for longer notice before festival season. Approve each request against the order calendar.
Check these first
Before changing anything, find out what is true today. These take an afternoon and use your own records.
- Late starts on the corrugator in the last month and the cause
- Overtime hours by person over the last quarter
- Positions on each line with no named cover
- Leave requests refused in peak season

Questions owners ask
Look at the pattern first. Plan cover, speak to repeat cases and consider paying part of earnings mid-month if pay timing is the cause.
Two people able to fill each key position, with at least one on every shift. Train them on the real line, not only on paper.
Yes if rotation is fair, rest is protected and handover is clear. Avoid keeping the same people on nights for long, and look at transport and food for night staff.
