Communication skills training for Motor insurance agencies: talking price, trust and accident cases on the phone
Motor customers compare quotes and phone in a hurry or in a state of shock. Staff who can be clear on price, honest about cover and calm after an accident hold customers that others lose to a lower figure.

A renewal call is short. The customer has a rival quote and little patience. Callers who read a script lose; those who ask a question, explain what the cover does and does not include, and respond honestly to a price gap keep more customers. After an accident the tone shifts entirely: the customer is shaken and needs one clear instruction at a time.
Training covers both. For renewals: how to open, how to explain what a cheaper quote may leave out, and how to close without pressure. For accident calls: how to calm, ask the three or four useful questions and state the next step. Practice with recordings of real calls, with permission, and with role play in small groups gives staff something to hear and fix.
How to set it up
1. Listen to real calls together
With permission, play three renewal calls and one accident call. Ask the team what worked and what did not. Learn from a good call before a poor one.
2. Teach the opening and the question
Greet, confirm details, ask one question about use of the vehicle or claims history, and listen. Avoid jumping to price in the first minute.
3. Practise talking about price
Role play a customer holding a cheaper quote. Staff explain what the difference may mean in cover and service, without scaring or promising too much.
4. Handle accident calls calmly
Teach a short order: check safety, ask what happened in a sentence, tell the customer the next step and who will call back and when. Rehearse until it is smooth.
5. Give feedback every month
A team lead listens to a few calls per person each month and gives two points: one thing done well and one to improve. Keep the tone friendly.
Check these first
Before changing anything, find out what is true today. These take an afternoon and use your own records.
- Listen to five renewal calls and note how many ask a question before quoting.
- Ask a caller how they respond to a lower competing quote.
- Check whether accident callers end with a named next step.
- See if any call feedback is given regularly.

Questions owners ask
Many agencies do, but get advice on consent and data handling from a qualified professional and tell staff and customers. Use recordings for learning, not for blame.
Be clear and respectful. Explain what the quote includes, say what you cannot match and let the customer decide. Honesty keeps the relationship even when the sale is lost.
A great deal. Staff who can speak the customer's language put people at ease. Train staff in the main languages of your area and in plain words in each of them.
