HR process consulting for Hospital chains: one way of working across many sites
A chain grows by adding hospitals, and every addition brings another way of doing the same HR task. Common processes save the group office time and make the experience of staff fair, if local needs are written in.

In a hospital chain the same task is done in several ways. One unit hires by walk-in, another through the central desk. One keeps papers in files, another in a shared folder. When a nurse moves between units or a manager is asked for a group report, the differences show, and people spend hours converting one format into another.
Process consulting maps how each task is done today at two or three units, picks the best working version and writes it down as the group standard. It leaves a marked space for what must differ by city or by hospital type. The aim is not uniformity for its own sake but fewer surprises for staff and less rework for the unit HR managers.
How to set it up
1. Choose the processes that matter first
Pick three or four: hiring, joining, transfers and exits are common choices. Do not try to standardise everything at once.
2. Map how each unit does it
Sit with a unit HR manager and trace each step, form and sign-off. Note where staff wait, and where the same data is typed twice.
3. Draft one standard version
Take the best of what exists. Mark steps that are fixed for the group and steps the unit may adjust with a reason.
4. Try it at two sites
Run the draft in one large and one small unit for a month. Collect complaints and missed steps, and fix them before wider release.
5. Release with owners
Name an owner for each process at group level and a contact at each unit. Review the process after six months. See also HR policies and governance.
Check these first
Before changing anything, find out what is true today. These take an afternoon and use your own records.
- Pick one process, such as joining, and ask two units to describe it.
- Check how many forms a nurse fills on joining at each site.
- Ask unit HR managers which group steps add delay.
- Count how many different formats of the same record exist across units.

Questions owners ask
They can if the standard is heavy. Keep it as short as possible, test it at a busy site and allow unit managers to adjust where a reason is recorded.
A named person at group level who answers for the design, and a nominee at each unit who runs it. Ownership without a name tends to drift back into local habit.
Depends on its size and the number of sites. A simple one may take a few weeks of mapping, trial and release. Plan for the trial, since that is where most surprises appear.
