Recruitment process consulting for Patient attendant services: finding attendants who turn up and stay
A service that cannot fill duties loses families fast. Hiring has to bring in people who turn up for twelve hours and keep coming back.

Share your requirementsWhy recruitment process consulting matters in patient attendant services
Most attendant services hire through agents in villages, neighbours and former attendants. People are placed quickly, often within a day. Candidates are told the pay but not the hours, the night duties or the type of patient. Some leave after the first night. Others start well and fade after a month, when dues are late or a family is difficult.
A better process describes the duty honestly, sees the candidate in person, tries a short practical task and checks a reference where possible. It keeps a reserve list and a standing set of sources. It tracks who stays for three months and where those people came from, and puts effort there.
How to set it up
1. Describe the duty plainly
Hours, nights, kinds of patients, tasks, pay date and what is not expected. Put it in a one page note in the candidate's language.
2. Meet each candidate and ask real questions
What work has she done, how does she feel about night duty, what would she do if a patient fell. Listen for steadiness and honesty.
3. Try a short practical
Ask the candidate to help a volunteer sit up, turn or walk, with a trainer watching. It shows manner and gentleness faster than a talk.
4. Use several sources
Agents in source towns, referrals from current attendants, training schools and former staff. Note the source of every hire. Compare how long each lasts.
5. Build a reserve list
Keep a pool of tested people who agree to be called at short notice, and call them in turn so each gets work. A reserve is cheaper than a lost family.
Check these first
Before changing anything, find out what is true today. These take an afternoon and use your own records.
- List the last twenty attendants hired by source and how long each stayed.
- Read the duty description given to candidates today.
- Count how many left in the first week and ask why.
- Check how many people are on the reserve list who have worked in the last month.

Questions owners ask
Both are needed, since patients often prefer attendants of their own sex. Recruit for both, describe duties honestly and take care of safety and privacy in placements for each.
Enough to cover the usual gaps. Look at how often duties go unfilled and how quickly families need help, then keep that many people ready. Keep them active so they stay in touch.
Often agencies do. Link payment to the person staying a set period, so agents bring suitable people. Write the terms and review which agents bring those who stay.
