Dealer and online orders swing the daily volume. A ready list of people and a simple induction let you add hands for a surge week without pulling the regular crew off their machines.

A promotion date arrives, orders jump, and the factory scrambles. A few packers are brought in from the neighbourhood the same morning, they are given a quick briefing, and the line slows while regular staff teach them. Kit errors rise in those weeks, and some of the new people do not come back.
Good looks like a forecast shared by sales, a bench of people who have worked before, and a short, written induction for kit packing and carton labelling. The hiring is done a week ahead, work is split so the new hands do the simple steps, and the regular crew keeps the machines. Our hiring work is about the process, not about supplying people.
How to set it up
1. Get the promotion calendar
Ask sales for dates of dealer offers and online sales for the next quarter, with expected volume in plain terms such as more or fewer cartons.
2. Work out the extra hands
For each date, count how many packers, carton and label staff and loaders are needed, and for how many days.
3. Keep a bench list
Note names and numbers of people who worked well in earlier surges, and what they did. Call them first.
4. Write a one page induction
Cover the product list, the kit count, labels, safety and who to ask. Our recruitment process consulting helps design this.
5. Review each surge
Count kit errors and days lost during the surge and note what to change next time. Go over it with the people who do the work, and note what they change.
Check these first
Before changing anything, find out what is true today. These take an afternoon and use your own records.
- List the surge dates in the last year and how many extra packers each one needed.
- Count how many of those temporary hands came back for the next surge.
- Look at kit errors in surge weeks compared with normal weeks.
- Ask your supervisor how long it takes to brief a new packer.

Questions owners ask
For a short time, yes, but repeated overtime wears people down and errors rise. Use overtime for a few days and a bench of extra packers for the rest.
Start with people who worked for you before and their contacts. A short advert and a walk in trial for simple packing steps works for many units. We would look at what has worked for you.
Give them only the simple steps first, check their cartons for the first day, and pair each new person with a regular packer. Write the packing list in plain words with pictures.
