Compensation benchmarking for Radiology Centres: comparing radiographer and desk pay with nearby centres
Radiographers can walk to a hospital or a chain at short notice. Knowing how your pay compares for each role helps you decide where to match, where not to and where to offer something else.

Share your requirementsWhy compensation benchmarking matters in radiology centres
Most radiology centre owners set pay by what the person asks and what the last hire received. Over time the structure drifts. A newer radiographer may earn more than a loyal senior. The desk staff are paid below nearby clinics. The owner learns of this when someone resigns and names the figure offered elsewhere.
Benchmarking gathers pay for each role from nearby centres, hospitals and chains, in a way that is fair and legal. It compares them with your own scale, shows where you lead or lag and lets you choose. Some gaps are worth closing. Others can be balanced by regular hours, learning or respect.
How to set it up
1. List your roles and current pay
For each role and level, write the present range and the number of people in it.
2. Gather outside figures
From nearby centres, hospitals, job advertisements and your professional network. Note the machine mix and hours. Respect confidentiality and competition rules, and ask a qualified professional if in doubt.
3. Compare role by role
Put your range beside the outside range. Mark where you are above, near or below.
4. Decide where to act
Choose the roles where the gap hurts most, such as senior radiographers. Weigh cost against the loss of a trained person.
5. Communicate and repeat yearly
Explain changes to staff and review each year. See compensation benchmarking.
Check these first
Before changing anything, find out what is true today. These take an afternoon and use your own records.
- Check whether any recent joiner earns more than a senior in the same role.
- Ask your last two leavers what figure they moved for.
- List which roles you cannot fill at your current pay.
- See whether desk pay is within the range of nearby clinics.

Questions owners ask
Not always. Hospitals may offer more but with different hours and pressures. Know the gap, then decide whether you can offer other things such as regular hours, learning on new equipment or a calmer workplace.
Use several sources and treat each with caution: your network, advertisements, past candidates and surveys. Do not exchange pay details in ways that raise competition concerns. A qualified professional can advise.
Write a scale for each role and place people on it by skills and experience. Explain placements. Review the scale yearly. Private deals are what usually create the feeling of unfairness.
