Attendance, shift and leave for Adhesive Manufacturers: filling peaks, field staff and cleaning rota
Adhesive plants run filling in peaks and send technical staff to customers. Attendance and shift design need a pre-season plan, a visible cleaning rota and clear records for field days.

Before a season the filling and packing lines need extra shifts. Daily wage helpers come and go, and permanent staff are asked to stay late with little notice. Mixer cleaning is passed to the newest helpers, who leave soon after. Technical staff are on the road, and nobody knows from the register whether they are on a visit, on leave or simply absent. Leave is granted by whoever is asked, and the same people cover again and again.
A well run plant publishes a pre-season roster with overtime rules and rest days afterwards. A visible cleaning rota rotates the sticky work across the team. Daily wage workers are recorded by name with their machine and a buddy. Field staff mark visit days in a shared plan, and leave for scarce roles such as senior mixers is planned with named cover.
How to set it up
1. Plan the pre-season roster
Look at last season's peak, set the extra shifts and who works them, and publish the overtime rule and rest days a few weeks ahead.
2. Rotate cleaning work on a visible rota
Put names and days on a board. Add a small recognition for those who do it well. Record it in the attendance, shift and leave plan.
3. Record daily wage workers by name
A simple sheet with name, machine, buddy and hours. It gives you who knows which machine when the next peak comes.
4. Create a shared visit calendar for field staff
Visit days, customer and return date go on one shared calendar, so the attendance register shows who is where and who is not.
5. Name cover for scarce roles
For senior mixers and the lab analyst, record who stands in during leave and check that the person has really been signed off.
Check these first
Before changing anything, find out what is true today. These take an afternoon and use your own records.
- Count extra shifts in last season's peak and who worked them.
- Look at the cleaning rota, if there is one, and see who actually did the work last month.
- List daily wage workers who returned this season and those who did not.
- Check how many field days last month were recorded as visits against absences.

Questions owners ask
Record them by name, pay on time and treat the work rules the same as for others. Returnees are valuable, and word spreads about how a plant treats its temporary staff.
They need a plan more than fixed hours: visit days on a calendar, a report after each call and some days at the plant. Agree expectations in writing.
Publish a rota that rotates the extra shifts and record hours by person. Offer rest after the peak so that willing people do not burn out.
