HR reporting and analytics for Irrigation Equipment Makers: seasonal output, scrap and dealer data
Irrigation makers run extra shifts and then idle weeks, so headcount, overtime and scrap swing. HR reporting and analytics puts those numbers in one monthly view an owner can act on.

Most plants keep attendance in one sheet, overtime in another and scrap or machine downtime in a third. In the season, no one has time to compare them. Extruder start-ups waste material, and long machine hours tire operators, but the link between hours worked and scrap is never seen. Dealer disputes land on the factory and the field team, and no one knows how many people were hired for peak, how many left, or what the peak cost in overtime.
Good looks like a short monthly page. It shows headcount by section, absence, overtime hours, new joiners and leavers, and beside it scrap or rework by shift, taken from production records. Field team visits and complaints are on the same page. The owner reads it in ten minutes and sees where the season is straining people. Questions are asked of the numbers, not of rumours.
How to set it up
1. Choose five or six numbers that matter
For example headcount by section, absence, overtime hours, joiners and leavers, scrap by shift and field complaints. Write what each number means so everyone reads it the same way.
2. Find the source for each number
Use the attendance register, pay records, production sheets and complaint log you already have. Note who updates each and by what date.
3. Put them on one monthly page
Use a simple spreadsheet first, with months across and sections down. Our HR reporting and analytics service can help design the page and the checks.
4. Read the page with section heads
Spend a short meeting each month looking at the numbers and asking why they moved. Note actions and check them next month.
5. Compare season and off-season
After each season, look at hours, scrap, leavers and field complaints together. Use the pattern to plan next year's hiring and shifts.
Check these first
Before changing anything, find out what is true today. These take an afternoon and use your own records.
- Pull overtime hours and scrap by shift for the last peak month and see whether they move together.
- Count joiners and leavers in the last season and list the sections affected.
- Check how many dealer complaints were traced to a cause on the factory floor.
- Ask each section head which number they would want to see monthly.

Questions owners ask
No. A simple spreadsheet and a monthly habit are enough. Software helps once the numbers and definitions are settled and the sheet becomes hard to maintain.
Start with headcount, absence and overtime by section, since they come from records you already have. Add scrap and complaints next.
Look at the shift, machine and material together. If scrap rises with long hours or start-ups, the fix may be in rostering or training, not blame.
