Communication skills training for Property lawyers: clear updates and calm handling for buyers, builders and lenders
Property clients worry about their money and their home. Juniors and desk staff who can explain status plainly and set expectations spend less time on repeat calls and keep clients longer.

A buyer waiting for registration or a builder's bank officer chasing a report will call many times a day. Juniors answer with a vague line, promise a date they cannot keep or pass the call around. Clients feel ignored, and the practice loses time and sometimes the client.
Communication training for property teams covers a few things well: explaining the stage of a file in plain words, saying what is pending and from whom, setting a realistic date, writing short emails and handling an upset caller. It uses real examples from your files and gives people a script to adapt. The aim is fewer calls and calmer ones.
How to set it up
1. Collect real calls and messages
Gather a handful of common queries and tricky exchanges from the last month, with names removed.
2. Teach a simple status format
Stage, what is pending, who it is pending from and expected next date. Practise it on live files.
3. Practise difficult calls
Role-play a worried buyer, an impatient bank officer and a builder who wants shortcuts. Focus on tone and honest limits.
4. Write short email templates
For delays, document requests and completion. Keep them plain and ready to adjust. See communication skills training.
5. Set update times
Agree fixed times for status messages so clients know when to expect them and juniors can plan work.
Check these first
Before changing anything, find out what is true today. These take an afternoon and use your own records.
- Count repeat calls on one file last week.
- Ask a client what they find unclear in your updates.
- Read three emails your juniors sent and see if the next step is clear.
- Check whether anyone gives dates they cannot control.

Questions owners ask
Start with a script and short practice on real examples. Confidence comes quickly when they know what to say about status and next steps.
Use message for routine status with a record, and phone for sensitive news. Agree this with clients at the start of the file.
Say so plainly, name what is pending and from whom, and give a date for your next check. Honest limits keep trust better than reassurance.
