Leadership and people management training for Electronic Manufacturing Services Providers: new line leaders
Line leaders were promoted from operators and now manage mixed customers and audits. Leadership training gives them tools for instruction, feedback and handling pressure.

Without training, a new line leader manages as they were managed. They fix problems themselves, avoid hard conversations with former colleagues and pass pressure down. Operator instructions change between customers, but the leader does not explain the reason. Customer audits find that leaders cannot describe how they check their team's work.
Good training is short and practical, tied to the floor. It covers how to brief a shift, give feedback on a station, handle a refusal, share work across customers and talk to a quality engineer. Leaders practise on real cases from their own lines and return with one change to try. Follow-up with the owner turns it into habit.
How to set it up
1. Pick real situations from the floor
Collect three or four recent cases: a station that slowed, a dispute at changeover, an audit question. Use them as the training material.
2. Teach a shift briefing routine
Show leaders how to start each shift with a two minute briefing on customer, product, quality focus and safety. Practise it in the session.
3. Practise feedback and hard talks
Role play giving feedback to a former colleague, asking for rework and refusing an unsafe shortcut. Keep the language plain.
4. Link with quality and planning
Invite a quality engineer and a planner for an hour so leaders know who to go to. See our leadership and people management training.
5. Follow up in four weeks
Ask each leader what they tried and what happened. Agree one more change. Repeat once more before closing the programme.
Check these first
Before changing anything, find out what is true today. These take an afternoon and use your own records.
- Ask three line leaders how they begin each shift.
- Count how many were given any training after promotion.
- Review the last operator conflict and see who handled it and how.
- Check whether leaders can explain how they verify their team's work for an audit.

Questions owners ask
Short sessions spread over several weeks work better than one long day. Keep each to a few hours and set one task between sessions so learning is used on the floor.
Yes, by teaching a common routine plus customer specific points per product. Give them a one page summary per customer and practise switching in role play.
Ask early. Some are strong technical people who prefer a specialist path. Offer both routes, with grade and pay steps, so nobody is forced into a role that does not fit.
