Recruitment process consulting for Home Appliance Manufacturers: hiring ahead of the season, and for key roles
Appliance demand follows the calendar, yet hiring usually starts after orders arrive. A recruitment process that works from the season's dates and tests key roles protects both volume and quality.

When the dealer orders arrive, the plant calls whoever is available. Line hands arrive in a rush, testers and winding staff are taken on a recommendation, and nobody has time to check what they can do. A weak hire at the final test or the tool room shows up as warranty returns or a line standing idle, long after the interview.
A planned process starts with last year's order dates. Decide the intake weeks, the number of line staff, and the few key roles that need a practical test. Keep a pool of past applicants and returning seasonal workers. Test testers on a sample unit, winders on a coil and fitters on a real fixture task, then decide with the person who will manage them.
How to set it up
1. Map last year's season to hiring weeks
Mark when orders and overtime began, and work back to when to advertise, interview and induct. Share the dates with production and sales early.
2. Write short role notes
For operators, testers, winders, fitters and service technicians, write the task, shift, skill level and pay basis. Use them in every call, advertisement and interview.
3. Add a practical test for key roles
Ask testers to find faults in a prepared sample unit, winders to wind a short coil and fitters to read a drawing or set a fixture. See recruitment process consulting.
4. Keep a pool of returning workers
Record names, stations and ratings after every season, and call them first next year. Add walk-in applicants to the same list with notes.
5. Close the loop after a month
Ask the leader how each new hire is doing and where they were weak in the test. Adjust the test and the role note for the next round.
Check these first
Before changing anything, find out what is true today. These take an afternoon and use your own records.
- Count how many of last season's temporary hands you could call back today.
- Look at the last three tester or fitter hires and note whether they took a practical test.
- Check how many weeks passed between the first dealer orders and your first intake.
- Ask line leaders which new hires they would hire again and what the test missed.

Questions owners ask
Work back from the first order dates of last year. Advertising and induction need several weeks, so start before the dealer pressure builds.
Keep it short, relevant and the same for every candidate. For line hands a simple station trial is enough. For testers and fitters, use a real task.
Yes. A role note, a returning-workers list and a short test sheet are enough. The production head and one admin person can run it.
