Employee onboarding process for Industrial Cleaning Chemical Makers: safe, accurate packers from day one
A cleaning chemical maker adds many packers in peak season and a few demonstration executives through the year. Onboarding has to make each of them safe and accurate before the rush hits.

New joiners are often given a station and told to copy the person beside them. In a plant with many pack sizes and labels, that means copying that person's shortcuts as well. A new packer can put the wrong label on a can of a similar product, and nobody notices until a dealer complains. A new demonstration executive may be sent to a customer after one day of product talk, and is asked a question about surface damage that nobody had explained.
Good onboarding sets a first day, a first week and a first month. The packer learns the handling card, the label check and one pack size well before adding more. The demonstration executive learns each product's limits, practises a demo in the lab and then shadows a senior colleague before facing a customer alone.
How to set it up
1. Prepare before the person arrives
Have gear sized, a station ready, a named buddy and a one page plan for the first week. Tell the supervisor who is joining and when.
2. Run a safe handling session on day one
Show the handling cards, the wash points and the rules for acids and alkalis. Let the joiner handle empty cans and water first.
3. Teach one pack size at a time
Start with one product and one label, check the work yourself for the first shift, then add the next. Packers should not move on until errors fall.
4. Build the demonstration path
Spend time in the lab, practise on test surfaces and watch two customer demos before leading one. Link this to employee onboarding so it is repeatable.
5. Check at week one and month one
Ask the joiner and the buddy what is clear and what is not. Note it and fix the gaps for the next batch of joiners.
Check these first
Before changing anything, find out what is true today. These take an afternoon and use your own records.
- Count label and pack size errors by packers in their first month.
- Check if every joiner of the last season had a recorded handling session.
- Ask recent hires what nobody explained on the first day.
- Note how many seasonal packers returned in the next season.

Questions owners ask
Give at least a few shifts with a buddy and a check of their work. Move to the next pack size only after errors fall on the first.
Safe handling, wash points, gear, the layout and one simple task. Leave the busy lines and the concentrates for later days.
No. Let them practise in the lab and shadow a senior colleague first. A poor first demo costs more than a slower start.
